How to Fit a Custom Cafe Racer Seat | Mounting & Brackets

There are hundreds of aftermarket cafe racer seats available, but finding one that actually fits your motorcycle is often a different story. Most custom motorcycle seats aren't a simple bolt-on replacement, particularly when the frame has been modified or a custom rear hoop has been installed.

In this guide, we look at fitting aftermarket cafe racer seats to two very different motorcycles: a 1982 Honda CB750C and a 1975 Moto Guzzi 850T. Both required some modification and fabrication to achieve a proper fit.

The Honda CB750C uses a modified frame and seat pan, with the seat needing to be adapted to fit correctly. On the Moto Guzzi 850T, the chopped frame required a custom approach involving brackets, a hinge and modifications to the tail section. We also look at shortening a seat, adapting an existing bracket and using a Yamaha R6 seat bracket as part of a custom mounting solution.

The important lesson is to consider the seat, seat pan, frame, rear hoop, tail piece and mounting system as one complete design rather than buying a seat first and hoping it will fit.
